Jupiter Jefferson's "West" was a nice surprise...a disc
of dark, droning rock 'n' roll. There are some similarities to Queens of The Stoneage's earlier material, namely the hazy, gloomy vibe that permeates the
disc but they don't quite sound like the Queens -vocalist/guitarist Aaron
Armstrong's voice brings to mind the late Elliot Smith and the music is more
reminiscent of the later Screaming Trees records -in other words neo-psychedelia,
extremely well done neo-psychedelia. I believe the disc is self-released so
check out their
website for more info.

"The six brani that compose the
album are an optimal business card, considering above all that we are speaking
about an absolute debut. The riff scarni and being involved of “Sunshine” and
“Ice house” they rest on melodie languide and dreaming atmospheres, introduce to
us in a dimension melliflua where the body loses weight and flies high in the
sky. “Never” and “Afterglow” are long psichedeliche escapes towards elsewhere
ignoto, of the soft ones fresco that with their charming force they produce an
incredible state of trance. Title track and “the Zero” head instead at the
acoustic depositor, sending back often and gladly to cantautorato of Nick the
Drake, Tim Buckley and Neil Young.
